Wireless Security on Games Consoles

Tuesday, April 15th, 2008

It is criminal in my opinion for gaming devices, which are ever more popular, to support such lowly encryption methods as only WEP - which has been thoroughly hacked over and over again and is useless. All WEP encryption will stop is the man sitting outside your house in his car, typing away on his laptop, not even that really if he has any sense he can crack the key in under 15 minutes.

Related to this is the Wii, Nintendo DS and Sony PSP’s support of only 802.11b. The 802.11g protocol had been aroung long before the release of these devices yet they didn’t see fit to support this higher bandwidth protocol.

I argue that security features like this are far more important than parental controls. Having to downgrade one’s wireless security setup to something inferior such as WEP to have it supported by all devices is a terrible situation akin to being between a rock and a hard place. Do you want to lose functionality or do you want to lose security - you simply should never be put in this position by a responsible company. If this was a business grade product then it would not have been tolerated.

At least the Nintendo Wii supports WPA2-PSK (AES) but it’s far from an ideal situation. You have to sacrifice speed of the overall network to run in mixed mode and not 802.11g only mode.

Virtua Tennis 3

Sunday, January 20th, 2008

My only question is - why is this not on Nintendo Wii? God that would be an amazing game. That’s the only thing Wii Sports tennis lacked, controlling your player, realism, the variety and the fun of Virtua Tennis.

Greenpeace Rates Nintendo Worst Tech Company

Friday, January 18th, 2008

I don’t understand this. Why? Why is Nintendo the worst tech company for the environment. Surely the fact that Nintendo Wii consumes less power than the likes of Xbox 360 and Sony Playstation 3 means that it’s a very green product indeed. Yes it is meant to be always on, but consuming a very small amount of power, plus it’s not just needlessly on, it updates “Channels” in the background.

I should think Nintendo certainly bests Apple or Sony or indeed Microsoft on many levels. Show me the evidence.

For Sale: Nintendo Gamecube Console

Saturday, January 5th, 2008

Ok, I’m putting this up here for sale here first as it takes awhile for replies about these posts to come in.

I am selling my not so beloved Nintendo Gamecube, to be honest it ended up in a cupboard when I became disinterested in video games and moved to computer games largely.

It is a purple model, in amazing condition. It is for sale with one controller. The sale will include only the console, one controller and the power supply unit. No AV cables are included at present, these are available elsewhere. Also one may use an N64 AV unit with the Gamecube.

I am looking for £15 (Or near offer) with P&P paid on top of this. I expect it to be in the range of £7.

Collection also available of course. From Buckinghamshire, UK.
